Overview
Majuli, the world's biggest river island, is endowed with breathtaking natural beauty and a rich culture that will wow you on your first visit. The island is 352 square kilometres in size and is nestled in the beautiful Brahmaputra River. It features two cities, Garamur and Kamalabari, as well as other small villages strewn throughout the terrain. This renowned tourist destination in Assam is an oasis of tranquilly, apart from the clamour of the contemporary world. People may be seen living in bamboo huts, crafting goods by hand, and cooking over an open fire on this island, which is an ancient world in and of itself. There's a lot of natural beauty here, as well as a lot of fauna and perfect tranquillity
Itinerary
When you arrive in Jorhat, your guide will greet you and transport you to your Majuli homestay. From Nimati ghat, it will take 45 minutes to drive and 1 hour to take the ferry. During the voyage, take in the magnificent views of the Brahmaputra River. The rest of the day will be free after you get at your destination.
Following breakfast, we will go on an excursion of the island's many Satras. Garmur Satra, Auniati Satra, Natun Samanguri Satra, Uttar Kamalabari Satra, Dakhinpat Satra, and others are well-known satras. Each Satra has a distinct specialty. When you arrive, you will learn about the history of these satras. We'll also show you some of Majuli's famed pottery. Enjoy a great religious drama performed by Vaishnavite satras monks in the evening.
Today, after breakfast, we'll go exploring around Majuli's nearby communities. First, we'll visit Mishing village, where you'll experience daily life activities, traditional houses on stilts, and the creation of traditional clothing such as Rihbi, Gaseng, Seleng Gasor, and so on. Then we'll sample some local delicacies and rice beers. Then we'll go to other communities' villages, such as Deori, Sonowal Kacharis, and so on.
After breakfast, we'll be exploring Majuli's natural fauna and wetlands. In Assam, the beels (wetlands) are an important birdwatching destination. Sakuli Beel, Bhereli Beel, Bor Beel, and Dubori Toli Beel are some of the notable beels to see migratory birds. You can also go fishing with the villagers.
We shall begin our return trek to Jorhat after breakfast. We will do our best to take you to the Molai Forest Reserve on the way back. If you're lucky, you could get the chance to meet India's forest man, Jadav Payeng. We wish you a pleasant and safe trip to your next location.
