Overview
The beautiful Mawryngkhang Trek is regarded as one of Meghalaya's most dangerous hikes. It begins in a little hamlet in the East Khasi Hills and ends in a network of linked bamboo brideges set out by residents over mountain ranges, through fields, and above a raging river. Wahken is a khasi hamlet located on the renowned Shillong-Dawki route in the Pynursla sub-division. To get to Pomlum village on this road, you must take a detour. At Pomlum, there is a sign pointing in the proper route to Wahkhen village, which is about 7 kilometres away.
Itinerary
You will be picked up and driven to Meghalaya from Khanapara. The three-hour ride will take you to Shillong, India's rock capital. On the way, stop at a clean eatery or dhaba for breakfast. You will soon arrive in Shillong and go straight to Wakhen village, passing through Pynursla on the Cherrapunji route. The journey to this exquisite location is worthwhile in and of itself. When you arrive at the trip's starting site, stretch yourself, use the restroom if necessary, and most importantly, fill up your water bottles. The walk will shortly begin. Dip your feet in the chilly water of the nearby creek to unwind a little. If you like, you can also take a bath or do it later on your way back. As you near the summit, relax your eyes and take in the scenery while eating a meal to give you the energy you'll need to return. Soon, you'll have to return to Shnongpedeng for the night and return to your campsite/home-stay. Eat your meal under the stars and get a good night's sleep.
You'll be ready to enjoy boating and other water sports in the crystal clear water of the Umngot River as you get up and freshen up. Before departing the site, make the most of this one-of-a-kind river environment. Following that, you'll visit the Phe Phe waterfall, where you'll be able to see nature at its finest. The waterfall is a 30-minute walk away. It's time to get back on the road and have your lunch. Return to Guwahati by way of the scenic roads and views of the west Jaintia hills.
